Many analysts are predicting that if a civil war was to take place in Syria (A big if, considering the fact that this is quite a convenient bugbear that the Assad regime keeps waving to maintain its grip on power), that somehow this will naturally transfer to Lebanon.

As talks mount over a potential UNSC resolution condemning Assad’s crackdown in Syria, it will be interesting to watch the way Nawaf Salam, Lebanon’s representative in the UNSC, will vote on it.

For the record, and I’ve said this before, the allegations of the Bahraini kingdom that Hezbollah “has been training members of Bahrain’s opposition in camps located in Lebanon and Iran” sound as preposterous as the allegations of the Syrian regime against the Future Movement in Lebanon.

Many who read M.P Walid Jumblat’s latest ‘advice’ to President Assad have naively interpreted this as a sign that the Chouf leader is planning an new U-turn towards the Lebanese anti-Syrian camp.
