“Drastic” Solutions To Traffic
December 19, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui
Prime Minister Mikati wants “drastic” solutions to the problem of suffocating traffic in Lebanon:
The solution requires a future vision to expand lanes and roads, especially at the entrances and exits of the capital as the number of registered vehicles has surpassed 1,200,000 in an area that is densely populated and has narrow roads
No word on metro systems, trains that connect cities (all major Lebanese cities can be served by just one coastal rail road) or other creative solutions. No talk of awareness campaigns for car pooling or reducing the stigma of using public transportation. It’s all about the roads: Give us more roads and wider bottlenecks. If that’s the “drastic” solution, we’re screwed.
