This essential post by “an American in Syria” at Landis’ blog provides very good insight into the societal aspect of the unrest in Syria. The author is friends with a Sunni family, an Alawi family and a Shiaa family and in his (I’m assuming its a he) individual conversations with them paints a disconcerting portrait of an unravelling Syrian society. It’s like watching one of those movies where the main story is repeated several times, each time from the point of view of a different protagonist.

Some people say I immediately rush to accuse Syria (I pointed fingers on twitter as soon as I heard about the explosion). They say that for fairness’ and objectivity’s sake, I should consider the possibility that this is a “criminal act” or a terrorist act by Alqaeda.

Great work from Qifa Nabki. He assembled quotes by Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah on the revolutions in Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain and Syria, and then asks us to spot the odd one out. Hezbollah’s hypocrisy can’t be highlighted better than this..
