While the coronation process slugs through its political birth, the people known in Lebanon as bayyideen wijj have begun hanging their fawning expressions of joy at the upcoming presidency of Gen Michel Sleiman. Here’s a bunch of banners I found while driving in Tripoli.

Yesterday, the opposition wanted to celebrate 1 year of their occupation of central Beirut by staging a celebration and hoping to attract as much people as possible. As Annahar’s cheeky camera shows, that wasn’t even remotely the case. For reasons ranging from loss of traction to Sleiman’s unexpected candidacy, the turnout was embarrassingly bleak.
