I don’t think this is the endgame in Syria yet, but I’m not surprised at all that it’s happening. If I were a Syrian resistant fighter in the wake of the Baba Amr onslaught, I would ask myself the question: Where’s the best place to fight the regime without risking a deadly city siege and incessant rocket bombardment? The only natural answer at this point is Damascus.

Two cheers to Farhad Manjo for exposing the printed Britannica Encyclopedia as “Expensive, Useless and Exploitative”. But to me and to all parents out there, here’s the most important part of the article on why you should let your kids use Wikipedia instead of an encyclopedia written by experts:

Not sure what to think of this. On one hand, it is transparently opportunistic and hypocritical (quickly: Name a female Lebanese Forces politician who is not married to the boss). But on the other, it is raising awareness of an important issue by using a star female politician.

Rotten fish, rotten meat, white rivers, red rivers.. If we include the buildings that are falling appart, we’ll notice that the boiling frog of Lebanon’s infrastructure is getting close to its deadly end.

A good piece by Hussain abdul Hussain (a self-described Shiaa-born March-14 supporter) on why March 14, 2005 did not turn out to be the beginning of spring in Lebanon. It’s too late to change my blog’s name but he makes some very good points on the failings of the political parties that comprised the March 14 gathering, the failing of the March 14 general secretariat and the overal disinterest by the movement to form a truly civil and democratic country.

Apparently, President Assad has been exchanging flirtatious emails with a mysterious woman who sent him a semi-naked picture of herself (picture). This could very well be true. It could indeed be what was actually happening, and not some clumsy smear effort to divide and conquer’s Assad’s picture-perfect family and his united front with his wife. But could this be part of a larger trend?
