Lebanese Websites And Blogs Shouldn’t Care about SOPA and PIPA

January 17, 2012 · Mustapha Hamoui

There’s this huge campaign taking place in the US against two bills in the American Congress: SOPA and PIPA, which are being pushed for by content creators (film studios, authors and musicians associations..etc), but which are strongly resisted by anyone who knows anything about how the internet works

If I were in the US, I’d be very upset because SOPA/PIPA would seriously disrupt my internet usage. But I’m not in the US and I find it rather annoying that someone who lives outside of the US should have to bear the brunt of what essentially is a local American powerplay between different industries. (Really, Wikipedia? People in the whole world can’t use your website for an entire day?)

So just in case you’re wondering, no I will not take part of the “Internet blackout” tomorrow.
