Syrian Blogger Razan Ghazzawi Arrested

December 5, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui

When I met Razan Ghazzawi in Tunisia back in early October, I told her that I admire her courage for blogging about the Syrian revolution from inside Syria. “Aren’t you afraid of being arrested?” I asked her.

The soft-spoken Damascene responded that people like her — urban dwellers who complain in English about the regime online — are not even on the regime’s radar. “We’re too insignificant for them”, she assured me.

A few weeks have passed and we now know, unfortunately, that she was wrong. This is either a sign that the Syrian regime is panicking, or a sign that it has just been waiting for the opportune time to pounce.

In either case, kindly show your support for Razan by following the #FreeRazan hashtag on twitter and spreading the word.
