Really, Honestly, Does Anyone Take the Arab League Seriously?
November 2, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui
The Arab League is expected to announce the plan [for Syria] at a Wednesday meeting at its Cairo headquarters. […] Arab diplomats involved in the process told The Associated Press the proposal also calls for release of all political prisoners, a new constitution and free presidential and parliamentary elections that should be monitored by foreign observers.
Think of it for a second: A bunch of absolute monarchists and military dictators are going to look the Syrian president straight in the eyes, gather all the seriousness and gravity they can muster, and ask him with a straight face to have free and fair elections.
You just can’t make that up..
