Yet Another Hezbollah Conference to Discredit The Special Tribunal

Two news conferences in one week for the same purpose. I can’t recall anything else Hezbollah has spent so much time and energy on. What does this mean? Here’s how Michael Young puts it:

For a party that repeats how unconcerned it is with the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, Hezbollah spends much time showing how concerned it is with the tribunal.

From a public relations perspective, Young is right: If they were really unconcerned, they should walk the talk and simply ignore the STL. In practice, however, Hezbollah’s scrambling shows that it understands the real threat the STL presents to the party, so it’s trying to seek legitimacy in the court of Lebanese public opinion. Still, I really don’t understand what they’re trying to achieve with these conferences..
