Getting Away With the Killing Of Hariri ?

August 15, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui

Remember Neil McDonalds? The man behind the Famous CBC investigative documentary on the killing of Rafik Hariri?

He wrote an article today in which he repeated what he said in the documentary: That Hezbollah killed Hariri, and that they’re going to get away with it:

Hezbollah clearly couldn’t care less about the tribunal. Nor does the rest of the Arab world. There will probably be a trial, in absentia. There may even be convictions. But the people who killed Rafik Hariri will get away with murder. In fact, they already have.

The big assumption behind McDonalds’ article seems to be this: Since the Lebanese (and Arabs) didn’t react as expected to his documentary, they are likely to react with the same indifference to the actual findings of the STL. After all, in his view, the STL will rely on the same evidence his report unearthed.

Perhaps. But there’s a big difference between an investigative report on TV and the actual ruling of an international legal body linked to a UNSC resolution. If the evidence is strong enough to pass through an internationally scrutinized legal process, it will be very difficult to dismiss it as the work of dastardly Zionist conspirators.

Mr. Mcdonalds was easy to discredit, and so was the CBC which (and I apologize to my canadian readers) to many people is an obscure foreign TV channel with no viewership in this part of the word. Discrediting the STL itself is a trick Hezbollah still hasn’t managed to pull..
