Why We Protest The Killings In Syria

What an elegant way this Turkish writer puts it:

There is something in the human condition that urges us to intervene in the killing of people who live right next door.

We protest and complain loudly not because we want to “interfere” in Syria’s “internal affairs” as PM Miqati puts it. But because being cerebral or neutral about matters like these is a perversion of our very humanity.
