Hariri’s Statement on Syria

August 1, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui

Ex P.M Saad Hariri:

We in Lebanon cannot, under any circumstances, remain silent regarding the bloody developments taking place in Syria, and we call on all concerned parties to rectify their position in order to enable the Syrian people to define their choices freely and within their humanitarian rights, and to overcome the painful ordeal which they are presently experiencing, as soon as possible

The argument that that we shouldn’t “interfere” in Syria’s internal affairs means that we shouldn’t be sending guns to any side. It doesn’t mean that we should remain silent and ignore all the massacres that are taking place.

There are some Lebanese who are covering their eyes. Fine, they can live in denial all they want. But there are some who are seeing but have chosen to cover their mouths. I don’t have anything good to say about them: They’re either cowards or conniving opportunists.
