❊ Lady Gaga’s Latest Album Banned In Lebanon Because it’s “Offensive to Christians”
June 4, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui
Here we go again:
A shipment of the album arrived [to Lebanon] this week but was immediately impounded by authorities in the General Security department on grounds of taste.[…] in April the single was taken off radio stations in Lebanon
It’s the Da Vinci Code all over again. By the way, the person behind banning the Da Vinci Code in 2004 was the then-Bishop Bechara el Raï, the same man who is now the Maronite Patriarch.
So here’s my fix: I already bought the entire Lady Gaga Album from Amazon.com, and I now have it safely in the Amazon online music locker. The songs are not in my laptop, they’re in the cloud, but I can listen to them whenever i want. How on earth can you enforce that ban on me?
Another question: What is it with international mega-best sellers that peeves our censors so much? Are they intentionally looking for negative worldwide publicity?
Here’s what I want from a Maronite (or any religious) summit: I just want them to accept that some people in this country don’t want their heavy handed supervision and paternalism, and that doesn’t make them any less Lebanese. For god’s sake you have heavens and earth matters to care about, leave lady gaga alone..

Update: A pissed off Lebanese Gaga fan voices off..
