“The Finest Ice Cream Shop In The Levant”

May 21, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui

Robert Fisk on Tripoli (Lebanon):

this lovely Lebanese city with its fine clock-tower, its wonderful mosque and souk, its ancient, rusting steam locomotives and the finest ice-cream shop in the Levant.

I wonder which one he meant. I’ll venture two possible answers, the ones I think are best in the city (it’s my hometown after all):

  • Esh’esh traditional lemon ice cream in El Mina..
  • Bal7a “Arabic” ice cream (bouza 3arabiya) , also in Elmina on the corniche..

Bonus entry: Abdul Rahman al Hallab Ice cream, but I’m assuming it’s way too “touristy” for Fisk’s taste..
