“Uncontrollable Consequences”
May 19, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui
The guys over at Ontornet have scored an interview with the caretaking minister of communication Charbel Nahhas. To me, here’s the sentence that summarizes his attitude (and to be fair, that of the Lebanese government in general):
We can’t give [an] unlimited [internet] connection, because it might lead to uncontrollable consequences.
What uncontrollable consequences? He still doesn’t get it. He is still thinking of the internet as a threat, as something that needs to be restrained so that it doesn’t take away from government revenue. Besides, what’s up with the cigarette? I thought smoking wasn’t allowed on government property.
