The Case For a Government Of Technocrats
May 18, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui
Lebanon cannot afford any more amateurish and ideologically driven behavior similar to the calls to eliminate gasoline taxes and to withhold from the government its own funds. That behavior is reminiscent of the childish acts of cutting ones nose to spite ones face.
“Take out the clowns and bring in the experts” is a fine argument, but the reality is that Hezbollah and its allies are learning the same lesson that March 14 learned after 2005: In the Lebanese political system, no matter how dominant your party appears to be, you just cannot form a government that is allied with just one side in the regional rivalry.
