No, MTC Touch Will Not Be Offering a 4G Connection in September
May 10, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui
I’m really happy that Lebanese telecoms are planning to offer faster connections soon, but it is important not to be fooled by any claims of “4G” connectivity.
MTC touch has begun promoting a “3.9 G, 4th generation technologies”. It’s not saying “4G” per say, but I suspect it wants people to be confused and think that MTC is offering 4G connection instead of what it really is offering: a slightly faster version of 3G.
According to Wikipedia:
Confusion has been caused by some mobile carriers who have launched products advertised as 4G but which are actually current technologies, commonly referred to as ‘3.9G’, which do not follow the ITU-R defined principles for 4G standards.
Which are:
[the] peak speed requirements for 4G service [are] at 100 Mbit/s for high mobility communication (such as from trains and cars) and 1 Gbit/s for low mobility communication (such as pedestrians and stationary users).
So please, if you do get an MTC touch connection in September and then travelled to South Korea, don’t make a fool of yourself and tell the Koreans that “in lebanon too, we have a 4G connection”..
