Aljazeera English Wins Prestigious Journalism Award In US
May 5, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui
Nicholas Lemann, Dean of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism on why Aljazeera English won the coveted Columbia Journalism Award:
Al Jazeera English has performed a great service in bringing the English speaking world in-depth coverage of the turmoil in the Middle East. […] We salute its determination to get to the heart of a complicated story unfolding in countries where news has historically been difficult to cover.”
The channel deserves it. While the Arabic Aljazeera went to the “dark side” by towing the Saudi counter-revolutionary line, the English version stayed professional and thorough. It’s a pity the channel is still finding it very difficult to penetrate the American market because of the brand’s association with Bin Laden’s videos.
