The Anti Sectarian Movement Is Being Hijacked

March 18, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui

The Daily Star:

The Amal Movement is urging its supporters to join Sunday’s demonstration against the country’s sectarian system, an event organized by civil society and independent activists on Facebook. The move comes in tandem with a high-profile “anti-sectarianism” campaign by local television station NBN, affiliated with the Amal Movement and its head, Speaker Nabih Berri.

Many people, rightly or wrongly, see this movement as a cover for more Shiaa empowerment in Lebanon. Mr. Berri’s latest push is not helping rectify that perception.
