A Big Day For Maronites

February 22, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui

If you’re asking why all Lebanon’s Maronite bigwigs are traveling to the vatican, it’s because tomorrow there will be a major event for Maronism:

To acknowledge the Maronite heritage, the Vatican in Rome has chosen to place the statue of Saint Maron as the 12th (and last) statue that will decorate the external wall of the Vatican

Of course (and you won’t hear this anywhere), the trip will also be used to discuss (negotiate?) with the Vatican the replacement of the retiring Patriarch Sfeir.
