“Force Majeure” Part Of Lebanese Wedding Day Contracts

January 23, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui

My brother is planning to get married next summer. Now, as you know, most of the Lebanese get married in summer, so you have to reserve your wedding hall many months in advance. You also have to pay a hefty deposit to show you’re serious.

My brother inevitably asked the hotel the question we all have in mind: What if for some reason (war/ major demonstration/ economic implosion) the wedding could not take place, or my Tripoli invitees could not make the trip to Beirut, what will happen?

“Worry not”, came the reply. “Force Majeure” is now a standard part of our wedding contracts. You’ll get a full refund, no strings attached, and a priority in setting a future wedding date with our hotel.
