Mercy Killing Comes To Lebanon

January 11, 2011 · Mustapha Hamoui

Simona Sikimic for the Daily Star:

SANAD’s mission is to humanize the last days and months of life by managing pain at home and maximizing the quality, rather than simply the duration, of life. It works on a holistic approach and also provides assistance to the whole family, helping loved ones acclimatize to the morbid reality.

Because it’s a very controversial idea “managing pain” in regularly used by doctors as a euphemism for euthanasia (mercy killing). In fact if you read the Daily Star’s article, you’ll find it riddled with allusions and inferences to the willful ending of life but not a single direct, clear reference to the concept.

But make no mistake about it, if you’re terminally ill and suffering, SANAD will make it easier for you to die.
