New Media Draft Law Deregulates Ownership And Licensing Of Periodicals

As things curently stand, you need to have a license to run a periodical in Lebanon. You also have to decide whether your periodical is political or non-political. There is also a limited amount of licenses available, which created a black market and a barrier to entry.
The new draft media law abolishes all of that among other things. This is a step in the right direction, but it’s too little too late. It feels odd talking about “publications” now that so many people are getting their news and other content online.
