Erdogan Goes To Akkar

November 23, 2010 · Mustapha Hamoui

If you want to imagine what the Turkish P.M’s visit to Akkar (north Lebanon) tomorrow soon will be like, think of it as the exact mirror image of Ahamdinejad’s visit to the south a few weeks back.

There will be a huge crowd (Sunni this time) waving Lebanese and Turkish flags at his reception (schools have declared tomorrow a holiday so that students can take part of his reception). Billboards will line the roads from Beirut to Akkar (minus Burj Hammoud) with pictures of P.M Erdogan and the Turkish flag with the words “Hoş geldiniz!”

A beaming P.M Hariri will be standing by his side, playing the role that Hezbollah played in Ahmadinejad’s reception, and enjoying the ecstasy that the locals (and those bused in from Tripoli and Beirut) will no doubt exhibit.
