Halalwash
November 15, 2010 · Mustapha Hamoui
In this post, I want to invent a new word: Halalwash. It can be used as a verb (halalwashing) or a noun (this looks like halalwash).
It’s like greenwashing, which is when a corporation tries to sell products by claiming that they’re friendly to the environment. I.e. using environmentalism as a marketing tool to sell more products, not as an end in itself.
So here’s my definition: Halalwashing is the deceptive use of the word “Halal” to promote a misleading perception that a company’s products/services are Islam friendly.
With Muslims around the world becoming richer consumers, halalwash is becoming more and more rampant and will only grow.
So with no further ado, allow me to introduce: Halal Makeup.
