The Forgiving View On The Arrest Warrants

October 4, 2010 · Mustapha Hamoui

Of all people, this came from Marwan Hmadeh in reaction to the warrants:

I do not want to engage in arguments that might harm Syrian-Lebanese relations, If these arrest warrants are a message implying to cancel the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), Prime Minister Saad Hariri cannot do so and does not want to do so

I sense a little wink-wink nod-nod going on here. A dismissive “nice try, Syria” coming from someone who sees this as a necessary political move from Syria to cover its hardline pro-Iran flank.

In other words, it’s like Syria had to do this in order to convince its Iranian allies (and Hezbollah) that it is really on their side and it’s doing everything in its power to halt the STL.

That would explain the focus on how those warrants “have no value” and are “meaningless” from the Future Movement politicians.
