Ahmadinejad And The Other Opinion
October 1, 2010 · Mustapha Hamoui
Jamil Mroue says President Ahmadinejad of Iran should listen to the other side:
Instead of meeting with those partners face to face and hearing yet again the same spin on Lebanon’s reality, Ahmadinejad would be better served if he took advantage of his time in Lebanon to meet with the leaders of the groups which oppose his allies here.
Mr. Mroue even wants the Lebanese President to arrange for a meeting in Baabda between the Iranian President and the Lebanese leaders who oppose him. That’s a good idea in theory, but there’s a problem. Mr. Ahmadinejad doesn’t do nuance. He’s a person with a binary worldview who sees things as either right or wrong.
Anyone who goes to New York and says to a large group of American students, with a straight face, that “there are no gay people in Iran” is not someone you try to convince of your point of view. He’s someone with a mission. Someone who wants to tell us what’s right and wrong, and then leave.
