All Those Accused Of Spying For Israel Are Arbitrarily Detained
September 24, 2010 · Mustapha Hamoui
But only the high-profile one, Fayez Karam (whose health is still subject to mixed reports) is getting public human-rights attention:
Human rights activists on Thursday called for the immediate end to proceedings against Karam […] It is alleged that [he] has been denied proper access to counsel and was interrogated without the presence of a lawyer, in contradiction to Lebanese law. Karam was transferred this week to a “special” wing of Roumieh prison inaccessible to non-governmental organizations, where there are fears he could have been unduly pressured or even tortured by the ISF, the Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) said.
Remember, before the arrest of Fayez Karam, Hezbollah was calling for the summary execution of the spies without any form of due process.
The courageous activists who dared to defend their rights were being painted as unpatriotic and even complicit. So Ironically, the arrest of Fayez Karam and Mr. Aoun’s campaingn against the ISF became good news for defenders of human rights and due process.
