Israel To Strike “Hezbollah Targets” In Syria

August 29, 2010 · Mustapha Hamoui

Get this: An Israeli newspaper quotes a Kuwaiti newspaper about an allegedly planned Israeli strike inside Syria:

The report in the daily Alrai quoted unnamed Western sources as saying that Israel has bolstered its troop presence in the Golan Heights and the Galilee panhandle. It also quoted European sources who said Israel had sent unmanned aerial vehicles over Syria and Lebanon, which they called a sign that Israel is planning a military operation in one or both of its northern neighbors.

If this were true (a big if), this is about Syria and not about Hezbollah. It sounds like an Israeli scare tactic aimed at pressuring the Syrians to go further into the anti-Hezbollah direction.

Haaretz journalist Jack Khoury (yes, sounds like a Lebanese name. He seems to be in charge of monitoring Arab newspapers) did not even bother get confirmation from the Israeli military and just went ahead and published this..
