“False Witnesses”

Pro-Hariri writer Mohammad Salam doesn’t understand what the fuss about “false witnesses” is, and argues that the term itself is not accurate: (My translation)

In law, there is no such thing as a “witness” in the pre-indictment phases, namely the security investigation and the inquest by the investigating judge. All courts conduct the investigations again during trials after an indictment is issued. In fact court records all over the world are filled with testimonials of defendants denying statements attributed to them during the investigation, claiming they were extracted under duress.
