Wake Up And Smell The Cluster Bombs!
November 5, 2007 · Mustapha Hamoui
Cluster bombs are cruel, inhuman and utterly disgusting. They fly in the face of all claims of human rights that countries that use them proclaim.
Whenever I think of cluster bomb victims, I think of fish.
Do you remember those uncivilized practices of old fishermen who used to throw little bombs in the water to get as much fish, baby fish and fish eggs as possible? How savage, how old fashioned, how disgusting. It’s good that such fishing practices are banned, isn’t it?
Now think of cluster bombs as the human equivalent of fish blasting, only much nastier. You throw a bomb that throws thousands of smaller bombs that just sit there, waiting for the next kid who confuses them for little robot toys.
The Israelis dropped thousands of such bombs on Lebanon in the summer of 2006. Many Lebanese children were killed, maimed, and handicapped for life. Shockingly, cluster bombs are still not banned the way fish blasting is.
Today is the international day of action to raise awareness of the human suffering caused by cluster bombs. Please spread the word about how cruel these bombs are, and help put pressure on your governments to ban this practice.
