Aoun Pre-empts Official Results By Declaring Unilateral Victory
August 5, 2007 · Mustapha Hamoui
Aoun is already asking his supporters to come and celebrate in droves.
No one is calling him a sour loser yet but he seems to be asking for a fight. All preliminary results, including his own, were showing that his candidate was losing. He didn’t accept those results, he instructed his webmasters to doctor the online results and he’s now celebrating a premature victory.
Very uncool, very undemocratic.
Update: I just found this very relevant quotation by Tom Stoppard:
It’s not the voting that’s democracy; it’s the counting.
We should all reflect on it as the coming night promises to be very tense..
Update: It’s official, Camile Khoury has won. Congratulations.
