So How Did 300 Saudi Jihadists End Up In Lebanon?
July 17, 2007 · Mustapha Hamoui
A Saudi writer contemplates on how the Saudi Fighters ended up in North Lebanon.

Fares Bin Huzam is surprised because Iraq, not Lebanon, is the target of Jihadi recruitment:

Because of the absence of public incitements to go fight in Lebanon, there are question marks on how they (the jihadis) ended up going there. It could be said that incitements were absent from Internet sites, as not even Ayman Zawahiri’s speeches on Lebanon resulted in any significant web activities, and no clear vision for the need of Lebanon as a new playground was developed.
Mr. Bin Huzam thinks the recruits came from less scrutinized Jihadi chat rooms, which “explains the under-23 age group of the Saudis in Lebanon”
He also concludes that most of the Saudis were taken to Tripoli when they really wanted to go to Baghdad. They were apparently told that the Syrians have tightened the Iraqi borders, so they should temporarily go train in Lebanon with a promise to go back to Iraq whenever an opening happens.
Once they were in Lebanon, according to Mr. Bin Huzam, they were slowly brainwashed into changing their objectives.
