Saad Meets Sarko

May 10, 2007 · Mustapha Hamoui

Forget Politics. Mr. Chirac and Mr. Sarkozi have something else in common: A taste for luxury..

Compare these two news items:

1- The president (Chirac) and his wife are to move into a Paris apartment belonging to the Hariri family when he leaves the Elysee on Wednesday. (A very provisionnary status according to Le-Monde)

2- The opposition Socialists and newspaper cartoonists took aim at Mr. Sarkozy’s holiday aboard a 70-metre yacht owned by media billionaire Vincent Bollore. Le Monde showed Mr. Sarkozy’s wife reclining on a deck chair, commanding: “Silence, poor people!”

It seems a taste of luxury will outlive President Chirac in the Elisée and could also benefit a certain Lebanese billionaire..
