Assad Off The Hook

The UN final draft on Hariri’s tribunal gives immunity to the Syrian President. Where’s the outrage?
P.M. Seniora received his official copy of the final UN draft for the Hariri Tribunal. However, In a dark Security Council alley somewhere, the Russians have toned down the original text that could have put a noose around the Syrian President’s neck:
They did not reveal details of the draft but said some Russian objections to an earlier draft had been taken on board.
One official source said the tribunal, to be made up of Lebanese and foreign judges, would have no power to try or question heads of states as the killing would not be defined as a “crime against humanity” or a “terrorist attack.”
No longer a crime against humanity? They sold us the entire tribunal on that premise..Why did this happen?
Some say it’s part of a deal (always a deal) between Assad and the UN to cooperate with the investigation, some say the Russians have bullied the UN into “moderating” the language . Whatever the reason, it seems we have swallowed the bitter pill.
Did we get anything in return? I think not, this particular detail is conspicuously absent from our media’s focus…
