We Trust This Man

In the face of the Syrian smear and demonization campaign, The Beirut Spring is in the process of writing an online petition in support of the integrity and professionalism of Prosecutor Detlev Mehlis. Ideas and Suggestions are welcome

Below is the draft of the petition. I am aware that there might be points I have missed or points I have over-emphasized. I am aware that the focus of the petition might need some changing, I am also aware that many of you are far better writers than me, this is why I could very much use your help.

From: The Lebanese People
Subject: The Lebanese People Trusts Detlev Mehlis

We, The signatories below, are noticing with increasing dismay the willingness of various media outlets to propagate the Syrian regime’s policy of discrediting Mr. Detlev Mehlis, the German Prosecutor in charge of finding the truth about the Hariri assassination.

We are listening with horror as unsubstantiated statements about his past and his personal life are leading to erroneous conclusions about his suitability for the case and his general impartiality.

We have seen how Mr. Mehlis works up-close and we trust that he’s doing a great job; we admire his professionalism and we sincerely thank him for his valuable time.

Important: The petition is not up yet. We’re still in the stage of drafting it. So let’s hold all the forwarding and campaigning until the petition is officially published (I will indicate when). As for now, let’s focus on writing an eloquent and convincing petition.
