So I guess Lara Fabian is coming to Lebanon after all.
The only thing worse than reversing course is changing your mind about reversing course. So we are now entering a clash pitting “fans of the usurping power that kills Lebanese children” against “mullah-loving gun-totting enemies of culture and civilization”.
These are really harsh classifications. Surely we can come with something better than that. So I was inspired by previous comments in this blog to come up with different categories of Lebanese:
- Anti Israel Vegetarians: They are declared enemies of Israel and boycott activists. Every now and then they find a celebrity who sang in Israel, a gallery displaying the work of an Israeli photographer or a politician who accidentally said hello to an Israeli on twitter, and decide to publicly shame them for contributing to the death of Lebanese children. After that, they resume life as normal citizens of the 21st century
- Anti Israel Vegans: They are truly committed to the cause of boycotting Israel. They don’t use cancer drugs invented by Israelis, they don’t drink Starbucks or eat at McDonalds. They don’t use the internet, google, facebook, twitter or Microsoft products. They shun banks, loans, credit cards and just about any invention that Israelis happened to have taken part of somewhere down the creative line. These are the truly committed to the cause of not killing Lebanese babies
The problem with this dichotomy is that the vegetarians are hypocrites and the vegans are savages. The rest of the Lebanese are stuck between the two. They are not carnivores, they’re just people who decided that the best way to live is to eat that meal and not ask whether it’s halal or not..

Hello, my name is Mustapha and I've been blogging about Lebanese society, business and politics since February 2005.
Not many will understand that last sentence! But listen, this can’t be it. there are more categories, more shades if you like. I follow the BDS stuff and their response to Lara Fabian’s decision to come after all is stupid. They are saying on FB that the General Security should have not given her a visa. now this is hypocrisy because they were saying in the beginning that they only call for people not to go to her concerts, but not for a ban. it seems that this is a lie now. they want to ban her, and this is where they lost me.
I am completely in favor of boycotting Israel, but the criteria shouldn’t be subjective. it should be very well defined, and the best way to define it is international law. illegal settlements are against international law, therefore, any group/person/company that does business there or contribute to the settlements what so ever should be boycotted, officially and at the popular level, because simply, it is against international law (kinda like UN sanctions, they should be binding).
a second category would be subjective and falls under personal struggle, and here no one should force anyone to do anything, simply lobby for their cause and leave it to the people, and this applies to things like starbucks and macky D’s or whatever. here, no official endorsement or enforcement should take place, as there is no well defined and defensible criterion.
lara fabian falls under that category
Still not sure she’s coming. Contacted Casino du Liban and they said they had no idea…Virgin is still selling tickets though.

This is a false dichotomy. As for “the rest of Lebanese,” they maybe called “mbanda2in.” And they are filling the airwaves TV screens with their cultural filth.
“accidently” saying hello to Israeli BRASS?
Whose side are you on afterall Mustapha?
No one accidently says hello to anyone on Twitter sir. And certainly not to Israeli brass….especially when you are talking about Hariri who, I would not be one little bit surprised….assisted with his own father’s assassination.
