Where Would You Like To Have Dinner Tonight?

Since everyone is talking about the electoral system, I figured I’d pitch in with a little poster in support of the principal of proportional representational. It was inspired by a similar poster made for a UK referendum but I adapted it for the Lebanese. Don’t forget to spread it around!

  1. … But what if we were dining in a restaurant that didn’t consider the consumer as King?
More representativity would mean more legitimacy to the owner’s interests. Right?
So do I really want to dine in a place where I dont get the best of what I pay for? :)

  2. So basically if I’m christian and I’m a big fan of a muslim candidate, there is nothing I could do under this new law to help get him elected except perhaps.. pray.

This is a step in the wrong direction, if we ever want to separate government from religion, it will drive religious figures even deeper into the political discussion and alienate every candidate whose program is not tailor made for his target community. What this “rare agreement” effectively does is provide a life-support system for the current Lebanese parties, and kills any attempt at reaching a secular state. It’s no wonder it was reached in Bkirki.

This law would be the final seal of approval on a mentality that says “Each sect’s politics is nobody’s business but the sect itself”. Is that that the message we want to be sending ?

    • Unfortunately Lebanon is not ready for anything else. It will take time and maybe a few more generations before sectarianism is abolished.

  3. The christians dont want PR. The batrak and major christian leaders said so. Muslims cant do anything about, your naive poster wont change anything and You should perhaps do it in arabic as the majority of your people speak that first.

  4. I may alsoremind you that AV for which the originak poster was made was rejected by the people of the UK

  5. Mus, just read through your readers’ comments and weep; why bother and instill change in such a recalcitrant audience? Let’s just keep on pretending that we are the world’s most culturally superior race and focus on adding more culinary world records.
