❊ The Big Fat Guide To Lebanese Twitter Users

** Update: This list is now available as a Twitter list **

With Prime Ministers Najib Mikati and Saad Hariri starting to use Twitter in public, many Lebanese have decided to join the service. As someone who has been using twitter for a while, I decided I could help with publishing a guide of some of the most interesting Lebanese users of Twitter. (If you’re very new to Twitter and feel completely lost, consider reading this guide for new users before starting here.)

This guide is not intended to be comprehensive. It is meant as a way for you to jump-start your follow list and get to know interesting people online. The people mentioned in this guide are chosen one by one. They are Lebanese or they live and work in Lebanon. They use twitter actively and interact with other users.

I will not include accounts for brands, businesses, institutions, political parties or causes. I am not including people who use Twitter as a one-way publishing platform. I won’t include anyone who doesn’t have a profile picture or has his or her account set to private. I also won’t include fake and unauthorized accounts.

Now, without further ado, I leave you with the guide (Last updated, November 15, 2011, 20:40  Beirut Time)

I’m sure I am missing a LOT of people. As I said previously, this is not meant to be comprehensive. But in case you think there is someone that must have absolutely made the list, please email me with their twitter name to beirutspring@gmail.com . And one last thing: Don’t forget to follow me.

  1. Mus,

My friends from the syrian intelligence, as well as their trolls in lebanon, would like to thank you for making their work faster in keeping tabs on the leb blogosphere. They could barely spell internet and now this titter tatter thingy, so they’re grateful.

Of course,, they had to send a verbal message, since their internet is either too slow or continuously cut off.

  2. It’s a great idea and specially now with Lebanese getting more and more into Twitter.
So honored to be included :)
    Thumbs up ;)

  3. Great list Mustapha! I’ve tried but can’t really embrace the Twitter thing. Nonetheless, this list is fantastically helpful in identifying people with large internet footprints, so I can find lots of other great sources of information in Lebanon!

  4. Very useful mustapha. Two things.
1- You can now add ghassan salameh.
2- I hope you can add the category ” Economists” in the future. please don’t include us under businessmen because we are not!
    Many thanks! alia

  5. This is very helpful M! Thanks for including me. Ask @gregohan for a full list of LBCI’s news staff. My company provided SM training for them over the summer. If Greg doesn’t have an updated list, I can provide one from July 2011. They’ve added a few since. Of course @taniamehanna has been on Twitter since 2009 and is pretty active too. I would also add @AntaReportNews in your media section or news curation, he’s been phenomenal.
    Cheers,
    O

  6. For the luddites amongst us, can you please explain in a nutshell why we should use twitter (other than the fact that’s cool)? What is the difference between it and FB for following people. I get all my updates through FB of interesting people, newspapers, magazines, (including the PM and some journalists and personalities). If you want to convince someone of using twitter, what would you tell them? what is the main difference between twitter and FB that would convince me of going there? I do have a twitter account, and I used it to get updates during the revolution in Egypt.

  7. you could also add @nadinefeghaly to the artist and designer section, she’s one to keep an eye on too, though she’s not active a whole lot at the moment it seems.

  8. cool list! makes me want to go back (to being active) to twitter and check a few of the accounts i did not know about. but the more busy and doing stuff offline, the less time for twitter and being up-to-date to the minute i get to be. Would be interesting to create lists to follow out of those…
    cheers,
    celine

  9. Thanks Mustafa for the inclusion! A real deep honored to be mentioned on your blog in the same breath as all those delightfully smart people :)

  10. Thank you for including me M :)

You won’t believe this, but I knew about the guide from a nice guy who approached me yesterday at a pasta place in Hamra. He recognized me upon seeing my name on the list. We were both having dinner alone, separately, so we ended up socializing and having a quite interesting conversation and dinner together.

Don’t you just love positive coincidences? Your guide spiraled on Twitter and brought together a couple of exhausted people on a work filled Thursday evening.

    Thank you again.

  11. mustafa, half of them are so lame and only say stupid stuff, sorry i don’t mean to be rude :( so which ones have the best insights?? could you make a list like a top 10 of all???

  12. Congratulations Mustapha on this timely initiative. Hopefully, the guide of #Lebanese #Twitter’ers will keep on growig while they become even more engaging.

Best regards to all fellow #Twitter’ers,
    Mazen Hayek

  13. Thank you for including me:) Shared your list to help Lebanese out there, thousands are joining now that politicians are on twitter (typical), they definitely need all the help they can get. Thank you on their behalf :)

  14. Huge thanks for the inclusion, it’s much appreciated. There are more dietitians in Beirut using twitter: @StrawberryBlu, @Point_ALaLigne, @eatlikemira1 and @MiraAbedRabbo. Thanks again Mustapha :)
