A fun video on CNN about about Beirut’s “first street atlas”. It highlights Zawarib Beirut, a quirky, fun but useful guide to the streets of Beirut.
This seems like an odd choice of a business to be highlighted by CNN’s “Future Cities” project. Sooner or later, Zawarib in its present form will be killed by Google maps and other online location services. Lebanon’s mobile internet is starting to become faster and more ubiquitous, so they have to adapt quickly. (Thanks Hatem)

Foursquare is also really picking up in Lebanon
Google maps is horrible for Beirut
Just tried it yesterday 2011-09-02 and it was hopeless and just plain wrong in many cases
Zawarib appears to offer a practical solution and I see no reason they can’t digitize. Be careful about trusting too much in google. In the long run they will be ” big brother” and more dangerous than you can imagine
