How To Have a Summit Of Lebanese Religious Figures

Rule number 1: Make the summit about the importance of having a dialog

Rule number 2: Avoid all talk of controversial issues (you know, the ones about which it’s important to have a dialog. )

Needless to say, the Bkirki summit is not about the issues, it’s about “dialog theater”. It’s about creating the illusion that something is being done, about building a facade of jolliness so that the people’s level of stress will go down. This way the sheep can focus more on their work and less on the fact that their country is falling apart..

Update: And most importantly,

Rule number 3: Fall out and disagree as soon as you leave the place

  1. I cant believe what I’m reading:

“Higher Islamic Shiite Council: Bkirki’s spiritual summit does not concern us, especially its assertions of Lebanon’s sovereignty and that the state has the right to liberate land occupied by Israel”

So they rejected it because it says that the state has the right to liberate its lands??????

  2. Yeah … to elaborate on Wael’s point, this article has the news:

I was actually [happily] surprised that the parties agreed to the initial statement … then reality set in …

The Kataeb website translated the full Shiite Council statement as follows:

Bkirki Summit Item 6 underlined Lebanon’s sovereignty, freedom and State right to liberating its lands from Israeli occupation, whereby Shiite Council recommended Lebanon’s right to liberating its lands, implying the right of people, Army, and resistance to liberating lands especially in light of the State’s inability to defend itself.

While Bkirki Summit Item 7 underscored resolving Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Shiite Council advocated resolving Israeli-Arab conflict.

We found out that the set text was different from the one distributed for discussion and giving opinion, statement said.

  3. They are hilarious, I loved it. Eh 3emroun ma yettef20, I will be going to the Laique Pride demonstration on Sunday.

  4. Why do you need a dialogue, if there are no or if you want to avoid controversial issues? Isn´t a waste of time?
