There’s a nice post over at As3ad’s blog (Arabic) about the discussions taking place among those who demonstrated last Sunday to “bring down the sectarian system”. As you can see from the conversations, the discussions are still broad and need more focus in planning.
Here’s my small input: As long as they’re using the revolution model and talking of things like “breaking the barrier of fear”, they won’t get anywhere. Because behind that thinking is the false assumption that the majority of the Lebanese are eager to “take down the sectarian order” for whatever that means.
If I were sitting with them, I would have advised them to focus all their energy on individual issues like civil marriage and the rights of Lebanese mothers to pass their nationality. These issues have a wider base of support among the Lebanese and can be pointed at as concrete achievements to give momentum to future action.
And loose the Che-Guevara hats while you’re at it..

what’s wrong with che’s hats? better than the gay shawls of the future movement
“gay shawls”
It’s often difficult to tell if you are a bigot, or 12 years old.
He could be both you know..
Hey Mustapha,
Will you go to the anti-sectarian demonstrations? I wonder what your opinion is on a secular Lebanon!
the word gay here does not mean homosexual. I refer you to the urban dictionary :
1. Happy.
2. Homosexual.
3. A generic insult.————-> this is the one i am using
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=gay
Katy Perry had a song called ‘ur so gay’….but hey, according to Osama bin Hayek, she is a bigot and a 12 year old.
Btw, nice ruse with the facebook thing Mustapha. looks like you’re anxious to know the identities of people who post comments.
“nice ruse with the facebook thing Mustapha. looks like you’re anxious to know the identities of people ”
