New Look. Keeping It Simple

Welcome to Beirut Spring’s new look (If you’re reading this from a feed reader, ignore this post).

I decided to be very ruthless with the items on the blog, trying to keep everything to the essential minimum. Many people had complained about the bugginess and slowness of the previous website, and they’re right. There was a lot of loose ends, dead links, news feeds from websites you probably visit every day and things no one uses anymore (does anyone “reddit” posts anymore?).

So I decided to focus on what I do best (I hope): blogging! It might take you a while to get used to the new look, but I really hope it will be easier on your eyes and your minds for a better experience in the future. Thanks for being such great readers.

"Beirut Terrace" Is The Capital's Latest Bold Architectural Landmark

Herzog & de meuron:

the concept behind ‘beirut terraces’ offers a revival of the urban lifestyle integrating indoor and outdoor living spaces. the residential tower provides the platform for a vertical village where community living and sustainability are key design features. the light and dynamic form of the building stands out to differentiate itself from neighboring towers.

Looks nice, but I find it very flimsy. I wonder if it can survive an earthquake.

Lebanese Audience Booed When Gorillaz Mentioned Syria

Lebanese blogger Liliane was there:

When the nice lead member of Gorillaz mentioned that they’re very happy to be performing in Lebanon, everyone WOOOOOOed… then immediately afterwords he said and happy to perform in Syria as well (trying to convey how happy they are that the Gorillaz are in the Middle East for the first time), people BOOOOOOed…. I was really really really ashamed. And to think the name of the song is White Flag, how ironic.

Ironic Indeed

Syria, Hezbollah and The Hariri Trial

Michael Young writes in the National on the delicate dance Syria is doing:

Mr Assad is not keen to see Hizbollah overly weakened [..] However, if the party faces a legal accusation, the Syrian president would pragmatically adapt to this new reality by using any ensuing domestic tension in Lebanon to play the Lebanese off against one another, in that way strengthening Syria’s hold over Lebanon and paradoxically even over its ally Hizbollah, which still remains above all an Iranian venture.

Evil genius if true.
