Photos: Wild Fires In Lebanon, Aley, July 2008.

Wild fires near Aley are causing civil-war-era mines to explode and are proving hard for the firefighters to contain. Here are some pics:

  1. this is very sad… and enraging!! one would think our stupid no good failed leaders would at least prevent this from happening year after year! This just sucks!

  2. Hey Dania,

Give them a break, this stuff happens in the US all the time :)

  3. Mustapha am not saying it doesnt happen elsewhere am just saying hardly anything’s done to prevent or properly deal with forest fires, neglect and arson. I dont know by which miracle the civil defense volunteers are able to put those fires out considering what little means they have.
How’s the wife getting along with the pregnancy, hope all is well :)

  4. What? Why are they “wild” fires this year but a Syrian plot to burn Lebanon last year?
Are you changing your tune now like every other M14 politician?

  5. :(
    Lebnen el Akhdar?

  6. Jinqua, personnally I didn’t change tone, these fires are both syria’s answer to the detainees files and hizbis putting the pressure for the ministerial statement…it’s quite obvious and politically they are treated as such (oops I forgot the zou3amma are all idiots and the lebanese people are the ones who know)

  7. Hey Dania,

Funny you brought her up. She just came back from Lebanon, the fetus is 3 months old and healthy :) , thanks for asking!

As for you Jinqua, you’re being unfair to Beirut Spring. Here’s exactly what I wrote on last October’s wildfires:

“Rumors of arson are rife as the fires have started simultaneously, at night, and in non contiguous regions. Some have even started to blame Syria (after all, Assad did threaten to burn Lebanon didn’t he?), but authorities are asking for caution, as some of these places have witnessed wild fires before. “

    Readers, you judge.

  8. Mustapha Allah ytammem 3a kheir :)
As for the fires it is said that Saad Hariri will lease 3 planes to help with the fire disaster.. lets hope its not just a rumor.
