Iran Missile Pictures Were Fake

Links

Let’s add one more missile to spice up that picture, said the mullah’s photoshop artist.

If you read the newspaper this morning, chances are you saw that picture with 4 scary missiles being launched in the Iranian desert (example). But as this post in the New York Time shows, one of the missiles was a digital duplicate. A bit embarrassing considering the fact that the whole purpose of the picture is to show the west that “Iran is stronger than you think”.

  1. The greater message that I get from this incident is not the fact that Iran used photoshop to “falsify” a photo but the fact that Iranian leadership does not trust the people with the truth. As a wag on the NYT site put it : well maybe they thought that 4 missiles would be 33% scarier than 3 lol.

  2. hehehe, cheaper to Photoshop than to actually launch. If these missiles are aimed at Israel, what are you scared of ?

  3. Jester,

If their aiming is as bad as their photoshoping, you too should be concerned ;)

  5. I wouldnt worry about those missiles hitting Israel too much. They are short range artillery missiles, probably one of the Zalzal/Fajr type with a range of maybe 75 km.

Check out this higher resolution photo.

Notice the lack of tail fins or at best only small ones on the unlaunched missile, the rail type launcher and relatively small size. The supposed super missile the shihab-2 or -3 has a different type launcher carried on a semi, not the small vehicle here, and large tail fins.

  7. Maybe the iranians are just faking on purpose just to get people off their back and dismiss their weapons program as “not serious”:-)

  9. I love photoshop wars.

    Almost like computer game.

OK, how many point Iranians get for each missile(or is it just blown-up katusha, sort of hurricane in the glass of water?)?
