A Terrible, Terrible Idea

Plain Talking

According to Aljazeera, one of the ideas that will be suggested by the Arab ministers meeting tomorrow is the sending of “Arab deterrence forces” to Lebanon.

The word that scared me most when I was a kid was “???” (deterrence force).

Every time I got out to play soccer in a court next door, I had to pass by one of their outposts. They looked scary with their big guns, dusty outfits and smelly rooms, and I never quite understood why they had such a big picture of Hafez el Assad in black shades (always in black shades) on a big wall.

These were the Syrian forces that got out of Lebanon in 2005. We were told they were part of a larger Arab force that was meant to come over temporarily to implement the Taef agreement and stand as a buffer between the Lebanese warring sides. We all know the rest of the story. The “deterrence” became an occupation that took pleasure in extortion, torture and harassment.

It has to be clear to the Arabs that any such force will be immediately looked at with suspicion and dread. We shouldn’t accept this.

Holly Sh**. These Arabs are really not the brightest are they?

Then what, we wait for another Lebanese patriot to fight them off and gain another independance. The Lebanese people will strongly criticize and rebel against such forces.

    They Can’t be That Stupid!

    Are you kiddin’ me? ?????
Haven’t we learned a lesson or two from Arab mediation and Arab conflict resolution yet? As the old adage goes “you screw me once shame on you; you screw me twice shame on me!” And I guess it’s shame, a thousandfold, SHAME on Lebanon if this is in the works; in which case, Lebanon earned and deserved this scourge. And more!

I don’t mean to be a drama-queen, but really, my condolences to Lebanon if we’re still trying to recycle old worn-out ideas and failed solutions!!!!

Hey Brooklyn, one presumes from your id you either reside in the US or at least quite familiar with the US. If such the case then you must be a total moron judging from your writing and labeling everyone a Zionist for disagreeing with you.

I am at an internet cafe with some friends, here in sunny California, having bunch of laughs at your utter lunacy. Please share more with us your rodent leader’s wisdom.

I doubt that any country is willing to send troops to Lebanon. Everyone remembers what happened with the last “peace” mission.

Special Op’s might be able to do some good though. The Lebanese Army needs a commander that is loyal to Lebanon and not to Hezbollah/Syria/Iran and I’m not sure how they are going to solve that problem. They can’t “fire” him – we’ve seen what happens if they try to replace those loyal to Hezbollah.

The only thing the Arab League can do is cut off Syria …. and I mean totally and apply pressure to Iran. They can do it will oil prices … they don’t have the balls to do it. The Hezbolla supply lines have to be cut to Lebanon and they won’t do that either.

They had better be prepared for Iran to take control of Lebanon because that’s what it’s looking like.

It is not a terrible idea Mustapha to bring Arab and Muslim forces EXCLUDING SYRIANS OF COURSE.
    - The Sunni Beiruti and Druze minority need help in their struggle against the Iran expansion and chaos spreading plans. (Iraq, Yemen, Bahrain etc.)
    - An Arabo-muslim forces operating under the UN watchdog will do the job and deter the Persians from destroying the rest of Lebanon.
    - The terrible idea IS leaving Lebanon facing the Iranians alone in this struggle.
    - I chose the less evil in this case, I support Arabo-muslim forces, EXCLUDING SYRIANS, to help establish peace and security in Lebanon.

Extremely good idea, as long as it comes from SUNNI countries. We welcome the great armies of our Jordanian, Saudi and Egyptian brothers.
