The fights came to that bastion of peaceful coexistence, Hamra.
Charles gives his personal account:
About half an hour ago, I started hearing heavy artillery and light arms fire close by. Then, something landed two streets away, but I don’t know what. No loud collision noise. A friend on that street looked from his balcony after feeling the vibrations, but has no idea what it was.
Another friend who lives between International College and the lighthouse (Manara) just sent me a Facebook chat message:
Dude, it’s f**kin scary. The snipers across from my house just got rocket launchers.

The beirut spring is a blog that is interested in Lebanese society and its politics. It started in February 2005 after the assassination of Prime Minister Rafik Hariri

i left Lebanon on 3rd of January to live in Canada after i felt hopeless about having a good future in Lebanon. i used to work in a cafe in Hamra st, in Beirut the city that i always loved to enjoy its crazy beautiful life style. A city of continuous process of change in ideas and cultures and lifestyles
today i woke up i turned the TV on and watched the news.
i felt so angry and ashamed about what is happening. i still can’t believe it.today i felt ashamed, of what the people are doing to Beirut. history repeats itself, we didn’t learn from the past. people are brainwashed by independent media that represent different political parties of the country. the losers unfortunately are the innocent civilians, Beirut and Lebanon.
Beirut spring now should be now Beirut winter, Beirut Death. shame on all who are fighting in the streets, shame on all ignorant people who are fed by religious slogans and midevial beliefs. shame on those who are destroying Beirut again.
Lebanon now is a place where the east and the west collide and never dissolve. we import the worst from the west and export the worst from the east.. today we look like a tribal community who shows off that they are open, they are liberal, they are educated… i feel ashamed to be Lebanese. May god be with all those who love Beirut, May God save Beirut…MY god save Lebanon

maybe this will finally be the end of hezbollah in lebanon…as long as the lebanese dont make it a shiite vs sunni, but a terrorist group led by/ financed by people outside of lebanon (iran/syria).
