Will this picture tell a thousand words?

This picture is being circulated in blogs with an anti-American leaning. It shows U.S. Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Michele J.Sison standing side-by-side with the ISF’s chief Ashraf Rifi.
Of course, the blogs find no need of mentioning anything else (except for some mutterings about protocol), waiting for the Lebanese to make their own conclusions, like for example, how subservient to the Americans Mr. Rifi (and by extension his March 14 backers) have become.
What they conveniently skip though, is the fact that Ms. Sison was attending the graduation ceremony of 166 ISF members, who just got trained by a US funded program, described by the American embassy’s website as follows:
The ten week state-of-the-art training program module is taught by U.S. instructors and curriculum developers with the assistance of Lebanese police and legal professionals. The police recruits are instructed in the latest policing and law enforcement skills and how to apply these to real life situations. Modern police practices, administration, democratic policing, human rights, criminal investigations and other essential law enforcement skills are all part of the program.
But then again, why get into the details when you get a chance to take a free shot at the Americans?
Hello, my name is Mustapha and I blog in The Beirut Spring about Lebanese society and politics. I started in February 2005 after the killing of P.M. Rafik Hariri.

In my view, at least one of the linked blogger is a monochromatic pseudo-intelectual Mustapha. He contends to be a reader of poetry, a practicing artist and a humanist. what a bad joke. Thumbs up for highlighting the dogmatism and sloppy thinking prevalent among the so called left - socialist bloggers.
Indeed. When the US funds and helps a state institution, who’s job is to enforce the law and keep order, it’s apparently a “bad thing”.
But when Iran and Syria fund and arm an illegal militia, who’s job it is to disrupt law and order, start wars, and occupy downtown Beirut, it’s perfectly fine.
Flawless logic.
Well next time the Americains,Saudis,Syrians,or Iranians provide help,or fund any program, they’ll be entitled to bump lebanese housewives,or wipe their ass with the lebanese flag..right????
They have to stop treating us like faithfull dogs, that they throw the bone to us whenever they want….
Whatever they do or give……they should do it with respect of the people and the protocole……
I wonder with all the help they give to Israel,do the Americains dare to break the protocoles there….OFF COURSE NO….coz Israelis have pride….but it seems Lebanses and especially so called majority supporters are these days stripped of all their pride….
Congrats………
How does training the ISF seem disrespectful to you Ado? I’m curious.
Not training the ISF is the disrespectful act, indeed we should be verry thankful for that, and we ‘ll be more thankful if they empower the lebanese army,by giving it valid weaponry,in order to stop any israely war,and hizbollah adventure….the disrispectful act is breaking the protocole rules,do they dare do that in israel???????and i want to ask if any lebanese breaks the formal protocol he’ll be brought to pieces….so what makes them an exeption????
Next time we’ll see a Saudi official, siiting at Sanioura office with his barefeet up on Sanioura’s table and in Sanioura’s face, just because they helped us in a way or another…..
I hope you understand what i mean BV…
You know what’s direspectful, Ado? This:

I am sick to my stomach.
I do understand what you’re saying, Ado. But I disagree with your assessment that it makes Americans disrespectful of us. You seem to think that the US is OBLIGATED to help us the same way as they help Israel. Let’s be clear here, no country is ENTITLED to get help frmo the US (or Iran or Russia or whoever else). You help your friends IF YOU WANT TO. I am sick and tired of people complaining like little girls that the US isn’t fair, because it helps one side a lot more than it helps the other. The US is not obligated to help anyone. The US has its own interests and acts according to those interests. The US is not some form of charitable organization that’s expect to abide by equal opportunity laws. It is well within its rights to choose who it wants to help and who it doesn’t want to help.
Furthermore, you talk about the US “putting it’s feet up on the desk disrespectfully.” So far, I have yet to see the US do anything outright disrespectful of Lebanon and its legitimate government or its sovereignty. The US has always stated its support for the legitimate government, for the state institutions, and for the rule of law.
Iran/Syria/Hizbollah on the other hand, flaunt the law, the constitution, and everything else in between on a daily basis (look no further than the link I posted in my previous comment for yet another example).
I really wish more Lebanese would get their heads out of their asses, and would stop wasting their energies on whining about the US giving us less weapons than Israel, or helping us less than they help someone in Timbuktu. You guys need to spend more time looking at the blatant “disrespect” that’s being perpertrated right here at home, but your own alleged compatriots (Hizbollah). Clean up your own house first, before worrying about what this or that foreign country should or shouldn’t say about you.
