Our minister of culture appears to be planning an ambitious law against the “outdated practice” of censorship...

A lot on his mind…
…Or so he told Rana Moussaoui of the AFP, at the end of a lengthy-yet-interesting article about censorship in Lebanon. (Excerpt: “Lebanese society is too steeped in religion to accept attacks on the sacred,” said one bookshop manager, speaking under cover of anonymity.)
But great barriers remain for such a law to see the light. First, the law can only be passed if the dysfunctional parliament votes on it, and it appears that this won’t happen before a political grand-bargain, in which a new government — likely without Mr. Mitri — will be formed, takes place.
Another hurdle to such a law is to convince the Lebanese people to strip religious leaders of some of their disproportional power, something that is unlikely to happen during this generation.
But let’s suppose the law does go through, aren’t we supposed to wonder who will be in charge of choosing the “committee of wise men” whose job will be to out-wise the wisest-of-all religious leaders?
Hello, my name is Mustapha and I blog in The Beirut Spring about Lebanese society and politics. I started in February 2005 after the killing of P.M. Rafik Hariri.

Well at least that’s a good first step….even though the road is verry hard….first we have the get through the closture of the parliament….second let’s try to immagine who the committee of wise men would enclose, let’s be fair and give a share to all the political parties:Antoine Zahra,Salim Aoun,Mohammad Raad,Badr Wannous,Mohammad Hajjar,Micho Mowawad,Wiam Wahhab,Nasser Kandil,Whatshisface Itani……HAHAHAAAAA wise men my ass….
By the way did anyone see Ghinwa Jalloul,i was just wondering, haven’t seen her in a while, and i missed that luscious hair, and sexy voice, anyhow she’s way better then Nila Mowawad, and Gilberte Zwein, but can never beat Mme Sett L Rida Taouk…..
P.S:in case you 14ers where wondering(and i’m toyally positive you didn’t guess,and never heard about him)Badr Wannous is a 14 whatever MP….hahahaha
Thanks Ado for sharing your fantasms with us, even if your comments are displaced, i guess they won’t be censored. I would advice you though to post these comments on the multiple porn sites that u seem to visit daily in search for a wider erotic vocab.
I have to say that from what I’ve read and heard so far, Mr. Mitri seems to be one of the few decent and progressive men left in Lebanon (or at least among it’s ruling class). And i’m not just talking about this specific situation. The man’s always seemed extremely well spoken, and articulate. His various ideas about governance and policy are far more enlightened than anything else I’ve heard coming out of Lebanon in a long time. We need more people like him in government, and less of those other imbeciles.

If I am not mistaken, that’s the system we already have, a committee under I believe the Director General Of Surete Generale Inspector Jacques Jezzini-Clouseau.
As to Mitri (a fine chap I am sure) and his gvmnt, this is the kind of out-of-place crap that plays down the bigger problems and the fundamental destruction of the state.
When the gov is dealing with this shit, like changing the Easter holiday last year, it puts these problems on the same level as the constitutional crisis and general lack of security etc whic are left UNTOUCHED.
Plus nothing can be discussed properly with parliament closed.
What’s next from this dumbf*ck gvmnt? Gay marriage?
