Lebanon on hold

The Iranians have decided to maintain Lebanon’s status quo until the next US administration.

If you’re hanging around Lebanese blogs waiting for that next breakthrough in Lebanese affairs, I’m afraid I have bad news for you. You see, our puppet masters in Iran have decided that they have too many things on their minds to care about this god-forsaken Levant country. This is why they decided to shelve us for now and focus on more important things.

According to Alhayat, Iranian sources have been explaining to various Arab states their preference for “calm” on the Lebanese front. Apparently, Iran is having secret talks with US, so it decided, alongside Syria, to keep the Lebanese situation on hold until such preliminary talks bear fruition.

In short, we are wasting our time, talking and writing and debating our Lebanese “situation”, thinking we can make any difference. We might as well all walk down the streets with the words “Bargaining Chip” tattooed on our foreheads.

  1. Mus,

We all hope for a miracle. Some think others will fight our wars and battles for us…In this age of high tech, X-Box, everyone trivializes and “dreams” of scenarios. We have a big elephant in the house:

Hizballah!!! Until their benefectors’ embilical cord is cut off, Lebanese will not have a country. Until HA is disarmed there will not be a Lebanon. Until Syria is brushed off there will be no Lebanon!! When you have a state within a state armed to the teeth, how do we think any solution is in the offing? Unless we turn to Hizbastan and become slaves…
Any pressure will not help. If I were March 14, in their so called “upcoming declaration”, I’ll put the number 1 point as the disarming of HA and all non legal parties including all the palestinian camps!
Until then we are just venting and dreaming in technicolour.

  2. It’s now an official fact that Iran and Syria are seeking to put off any progress on the lebanese front, in fact, the syrians knew all along that would be the case and the Iranians are just confirming it out loud. There is a catch though, I do not believe that this status quo pleases the US and its arab allies and in fact pressure is being applied on Damascus to remove itself from under the iranian umbrella. The fact that there is an armada of ships on the horizon and an israeli statement accusing Syria’s proxy of complicity with hamas in the latest attack could shake things up in Syria’s decision making IF it is perceived as a possible threat to their security. I hope something happens to change this situation as it does not serve Lebanon’s interests to be hanging in limbo until 2009.

  3. Are you sure they are talking with the current US Administration? or are they talking with the Obama people who they all believe will be the next US administration.

Three things are for sure. President Bush will not give Lebanon to either Syria or Iran. He will not “deal” with Syria as long as it is a haven for terrorists groups. He will not “deal” with Iran to allow them to become a nuclear power. He won’t do any of those things. He sees all three issues as important for US National Security.

  4. i also was going to state that NOW IS THE TIME to move forward. while the syrians/iranians are “busy” with other things.

  5. Again, what’s pathetic is that the Lebanese are used to (and have accepted) the fact that their fate is always decided by the US, Iran, Syria, France, whoever…anyone but the Lebanese themselves…And that’s a stupid situation.

It may be so, because we, Lebanese have allowed the situation to get to where it is now. We haven’t learnt a damn thing yet.

  6. Whats going on with everybody here ???
1-Hezbullah’s weapons were never used against lebanese people , the shiaa in Lebanon live in the south , they need to protect them self from the big evil Israel . If they gave up their weapons , who will protect them , you Mostafa ???
Therefore , Hezbullah will keep their weapons untill our lovely goverment provide security for its people.
If the united state is an ally to lebanon then they can start helping us to build a strong army that is capable to defend us.

2- Why all this hate to Iran , have Iran occupied any arab land ? have they started a war with anyone in the region ?
Are’nt they a big supporter for the palestinian case while all Arabs forgot about it .
Did’nt they help us defeat our enemy ? (unless u don’t consider Israel as an enemy ) . did’nt they help us free south lebanon, but you are from Tripole so who cares about the south .
3- Who is Amir from Tel Aviv to tell us who to elect ? If you are Israeli, its not of your business who we elect , and if you are Lebanese, then come back home because there is nothing like home .

  7. Lewaa

Your homeland Iran occupies three emirate islands and pretend that Bahrain a sovereign state is part of Iran. This same dam Iran country says that the Arabic Gulf is called the persian Gulf!
Iranian militias helped the American occupation in Irak!!!! Najad came under the American protection, Yes to the Green Zone under the American supervision few days ago to Baghdad!!! He was like Xerex making his vengeance again Mesopotamia! Iranian militias in Irak killed irakis and especially Sunni Iraqis in the last 4 years more that Israel killed Palestinians since 1948!!!!!

I prefer a weak Israel (yes Israel is in the state of survival and defense), instead of the ambitious persian who wants to revive the Majous Safavid dreams and destroy and control the Arabic and Muslim world!!!
God, we need a new Omar The Great to destroy the Persian enemy. Iran is number one ally of the American imperialism in the region: helping Americans to occupy Iraq!

Lewaa take one way ticket to Asfahan, you’ll make Lebanese people a great favor!

  8. Sam? the Persian gulf is an “Arabic” Gulf? Since when? Its Sinus Persicus according to EVERY single geography and history source and atlases I’ve consulted so far. Give your Arab chauvinism a rest. The designation “Persian” is historical, academic, and accurate. “Arabian” is ahistorical and inaccurate. There is an “Arabian” Peninsula, but history (except the history fabricated by Arab nationalists) knows nothing about an “Arabian” Gulf.

  9. Traffic ,
Lebanese have not been safe since 1948. Though, after the war of July 2006, Israel will think 1000 times before they step foot in Lebanon.

Sam , I am a Lebanese Arab. I’m not muslim.
1- The Emirates Islands were taken during the role of the Shah , When Khomaini took over , the Arab gulf countries rushed to support Iraq in an unjustified war, And we all know that Mohammed bin Rashid was in Iran Last week and the Iranian president was in Emirates last month . ( so if Iran returned the islands tomorrow, will you accept them ? or you will look for something else to pick on ).

2- The Persian Gulf is the known name in every map you study through out the history . ( who cares what they call it , does that make them the Enemy? I’ll call it the Lebanese gulf if that makes you feel better).

3-( ambitious persian who wants to revive the Majous Safavid dreams and destroy and control the Arabic and Muslim world!!!)
What control ?????? Aren’t they controlled ? What have you got as a nation from the American control ?

4- Helping Americans to occupy Iraq are our Brave Saudies and Jordanian and the rest of the gulf countries .( don’t switch facts).

5- Israel is not weak and in survival my friend , their ambition is so big that it doesn’t matter from what city or village in Lebanon you are from , it’s included in their Great Israel map . Read some books .

  10. Lewaa,
As a proud and original Lebanese, I can say that I consider Hezbollah much more of an ennemy to Lebanon than Israel, in this context.

Sorry to see that you have been brainwashed by the Hezb propaganda. Come back to the real Lebanon, although you pretend to live in it.

Hezbollah’s weapons are a threat to the progress of Lebanon. We can make peace with Israel 10 minutes after Hezbollah drops their weapons.

Believe us, that Lebanon is better off without the Iranian and Syrian influences. We welcome ex-Hezbollah supporters to re-integrate the Lebanese society peacefully, and we will not hold anything against them, IF they drop all their weapons and focus on the economic well-being of Lebanon instead.

The war is a war about the Economy. IF Lebanon is strong economically, then nothing can stand in our way.

  11. TikTak:

“Again, what’s pathetic is that the Lebanese are used to (and have accepted) the fact that their fate is always decided by the US, Iran, Syria, France, whoever…anyone but the Lebanese themselves…And that’s a stupid situation.

It may be so, because we, Lebanese have allowed the situation to get to where it is now. We haven’t learnt a damn thing yet. ”

    Indeed, my friend, indeed.

And to the idiot that said Hizbollah’s weapons were never used against the Lebanese. Clearly, you were not born back in the civil war days. Hizbollah did indeed use its weapons against Amal in a fight for supremacy over the Shia, back in the late 80s.

  12. Lewaa,

Oh yeah forgot about the great Zionist plans. They withdrew from Lebanon to fulfill their ambition of occupying Lebanon. Wow, those weaselly SOBs.
Come to think of it, you forgot to mention the whole deal about Israel wanting our water issue. But I’m on top of that. I’m suggesting, in the name of resistance, that we all rush down and pee in the Wazzani river. This should set them straight.

  13. Let’s see….

Israel withdrew from Lebanon in 2000. Give or take a strip of land in Shebaa.

Syria had 45,000+ troops in Lebanon for the past 30 years. Continues to maintain an intelligence presence, and continues to occupy portions of Lebanese territory in the North and East of the country. Has refused to recognized Lebanese sovereignty or have diplomatic representation with Lebanon.

Who has territorial ambitions in Lebanon again?

In typical Lebanese fashion, people still can’t seem to add 2+2.

  14. “… Israel is not weak and in survival my friend , their ambition is so big that it doesn’t matter from what city or village in Lebanon you are from , it’s included in their Great Israel map . Read some books”.

“…Though, after the war of July 2006, Israel will think 1000 times before they step foot in Lebanon”.

“… Who is Amir from Tel Aviv to tell us who to elect ? If you are Israeli, its not of your business who we elect , and if you are Lebanese, then come back home because there is nothing like home”.

    What a pile of rubbish..!!!

  15. “…Though, after the war of July 2006, Israel will think 1000 times before they step foot in Lebanon”.

That is the funniest joke I ever heard….

To all the psychos who think that HizbIran won the war, I say: wait and see…..

There is no possible scenario of HizbIran existing till next year.

The problem that people do not see is HizbIran, Syria and Iran are all defensive forces. They have no offensive army. By offense, for people that do not understand the difference, is the way an army can hit and advance/conquer to take over the other army locations….

The striking force for HizbIran, Syria and Iran is missiles… Their logic is “If we get hit, we will hit back” with this logic you cannot win the war…

I say again… Wait and see… Every single source of news is talking about a major war coming to the region. Let’s see Hassouna what he is going to do??? I suggest to him going one more level below the ground. So, instead of ten stories below ground, he should go to 11 stories below ground….And he should be safe….

  16. Its Lewaa again ,
I want to thank traffic for the nice and open minded reply I just read , Trust me I’m lebanese like all of you , I would do any thing for lebanon’s interest and you guys . I lived the civil war , I’m one of the people who rejected the syrian present in Lebanon , I never gave my ID to any syrian soldier in a check point and I got punished over and over for that .

That does not mean that Hezbullah is our enemy and we wish them destruction . You tell me if hezbullah drop their weapons we’ll have peace with Israel in 10 mins , why don’t they drop their weapons them .

Have a clear head , and know who is our enemy .
Check this and learn some dignity .

  17. Lewaa,

“why don’t they drop their weapons them”

    Really…
Are you confused as to the nature or purpose of HA?You’re equating the calls to disarm a militia with a call to disarm the IDF… Rich.
So the Lebanese army does not have a role?

  18. Lewaa, it appears you are ready to believe any lie, and concoct any twisted illogical thought, simply in order to justify a hatred of Israel. If hating Israel is so important to you, do not pretend you are putting Lebanon first.

And do not rehash the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. That was fiction. Just because someone older than you that you care about told you these lies, doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice reason in order to keep believing it. It’s your life, think for yourself.

Think of what will *actually* help Lebanon.

  19. Lewaa, I was interested in reading what you had to say until you included the link to
Norman Finkelstein’s interview. Can’t believe you reference this patsy as a source of information. What a joke.

  20. What a joke … to bring histeric psycho Finkelstein.
Hello lady, can’t you read? it’s MEMRI broadcasting. It’s a brobaganda AGAINST you, not FOR you.

“…I lived the civil war , I’m one of the people who rejected the Syrian present in Lebanon , I never gave my ID to any Syrian soldier in a check point and I got punished over and over for that”.

More rubbish? What a brave infant you used to be.
    Now you’re a platitudinal joke.

I would love to see your country Persia divided and split into thousands pieces! To start with: Balushestan, Al Ahwaz, Kurdestan, Azerbigan and the Armenian part of your so called Iran must split and form their own independent identity, inshallah!

    Lewaa :

I don’t know what to say to you. You sound Orangites. If that’s the case, I’ll see you changing position once Aoun the psycho does. So no more time waisting, please.

    Amir :

I know that Israelis ambitions where to control from Nile to Euphrates. Maybe Iraq invasion was to serve that aim. BUT look at the situation now:
Could Israel control its borders or stop the mini rockets from Gaza?
Could Israel reverse the demographic bleeding and the fear of its citizens? What about HizbIran mobs and IDF inability to neutralize them?
Could Israeli stop the development and the growth of 1,3 billion Muslims and their support to Palestinians?
Anyways, I don’t envy Israelis in their current position! Israelis should look for REAL peace with their semitic cousins!

Sam, min timmak la bikhsh teez rabbna.
So should all your artificial Arab fantasmic “nations”, filthy tribes with flags really, so should they all go back to doing what they do best: tribaling around and attacking each other for booty. Saudi is one good start; a useless arid piece of shit country named after a family. Now THAT’s nationality if ever there was one!

So, to add to your wish for the splintering of Iran, may that come to pass in your lifetime, fanjo! And may you and your hairy arabs–and I don’t mean the women only–leave Lebanon be! We’ve had enough of your pettiness; bunch’o stillborn sorry failed imitations of human beings.

  23. and BTW Sam, IT IS the Persian Gulf!!! Get off the Arabist frenzy. You people have no culture to ear a Gulf named after you. In fact, the only Gulf you should have is the one you collectively drown your stinking useless selves into.

Save us from the scourge that you’ve been to the human race these past 14 centuries of your useless existence!!!!
    El 3ama yaa!

It is the ARABIC GULF in your eyes! Most of us Lebanese believe so. Except a few shit like you. I can see your respond: a reflection of your nihilistic maniaco-depressive culture. Black and death loving!
Your emotional respond is the manifestation that you are the perfect candidate to be a suicide bomber, a life hater.
Kill yourself but leave others in peace man.

As for Arabs that you attack. In Lebanon we are grateful for them rebuilding our country after the civil war in Hariri period. While the BASTARD persians destroyed Lebanon in July 2006 for their ”Nuke your ass” project. Which is a threat to all humankind!
    Arabic Gulf in your Eyes!

  25. Sam, I read your nonesense, and all I can think is how REMARKABLY dull and banal you people are. Still living in Arab nationalism’s fantasy land; must be the fumes from Arabism’s carcass.
Care to join the rest of us humans in the new millennium once the effects of the fumes subside? You don’t have to, really. It’s just an idea. Otherwise, be my guest and take another whiff of Arabism if that’s your life’s ferment. Enjoy your insignificance.

  26. Sorry Anonymous, I just checked, you’re right, there is not Arab Gulf. My bad. It must be the mickey-mouse education we get in the Arab world. So there you have it, I’m coming clean and admitting my wrong. Wouldn’t it be nice if Shiites like you admitted their wrongs every once in a while too? I will not hold my breath

  27. “Sorry Anonymous, I just checked, you’re right, there is not Arab Gulf. My bad. It must be the mickey-mouse education we get in the Arab world. Sam, maybe you’ve been taught that the Persian Gulf *should* be called the Arab Gulf, as opposed to it actually being called such? ..purely based on where it’s located. :)

  28. I don’t know. Al-Hayat is not a very good source. Honestly there aren’t really any reputable Arab papers, most things in the Arab media are complete rubbish.

  29. Abu Hatem: “Honestly there aren’t really any reputable Arab papers”

Call me crazy, Abu Hatem, but personally, I would have ended this sentence at “Arab.”

  30. “Call me crazy, Abu Hatem, but personally, I would have ended this sentence at “Arab.””

It wouldn’t make much sense, though.

  31. It’s never a waste of time.
If you can convince your pro-March 8 neighbor that the March 8 camp doesn’t seem to have any good and reasonable plan for the future of Lebanon, and you convert him or her to neutrality, or even better to pro-March 14, which is the spring of Lebanon, then you would have planted one more seed.

And seed by seed, the spring of Lebanon can blossom again. In reality, everything that is happening in Lebanon today will only strengthen this country in the future. The problems are very deep and they encourage the Lebanese to thing deeply and eventually they will see the light, whether they are pro-M8 or pro-M14.

If you reduce the popularity of Nasrallah and Aoun, then Syria’s influence is automatically weakened. And this has been the strategy of M14 politicians so far. It seems to be working. But everything takes time, patience and wisdom.

The dictators and fascists will be defeated soon. Their model doesn’t stand on its feet for too long. They will self annihilate. Every decision they make is often the wrong one. There is not enough diversity at the top to correct the decisions.

  32. No stable and modern countries were built in 2 minutes and without zillions of problems. The years we are living are truly building Lebanon. Without problems we may have built a fake nation that falls at the lightest wind. Now we are discovering all the difficulties of managing a decent nation, and we will find good solutions. Aoun’s followers will realize that worshiping an idol is nonsense. Hariri’s followers will realize that they cannot have the entire pie. Nasrallah’s followers will get sick and tired of religion and wars.

Better have the issues now before Lebanon is rebuilt than in 10 years after it has been rebuilt. Once all problems are cleanly solved, we can move forward on a stable ground.

  33. What happened, Augustus Glub? You blog so infrequently? Did your trustfund dry up? Did you have to get a real job? Or did “they” stop paying you to promote their cedar BS?
